We looked at how much Krystian Bielik's wages have increased since his summer move from Birmingham City to West Brom.

It is rare for players to make the move from Birmingham City to local rivals West Bromwich Albion, but that is exactly what defender Krystian Bielik did this summer.

After two previous loan spells with the club, Bielik joined Birmingham on a permanent deal in the summer of 2023, and he was one of their better performers as they were relegated from the Championship in the 2023-24 season.

Many expected Bielik to depart St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park after relegation, but he instead signed a new contract with the Blues last summer, and he was also handed the captain's armband by new manager Chris Davies.

Bielik was a regular for Birmingham in the first half of last season, but his game time became limited over the course of the campaign, and he made just three league starts after the turn of the year as he struggled to break up the partnership of Christoph Klarer and Ben Davies.

After Bielik was deemed surplus to requirements by the Blues this summer, he made a surprise move across the Midlands to join West Brom, with the 27-year-old putting pen to paper on a three-year contract at The Hawthorns.

It was a busy summer for West Brom following the appointment of new head coach Ryan Mason, and Bielik was one of nine new signings to arrive at the club, along with Alfie Gilchrist, Nat Phillips, Chris Mepham, George Campbell, Charlie Taylor, Samuel Iling-Junior, Toby Collyer and Aune Heggebo.

Given that Bielik was a fan favourite at Birmingham, the deal certainly raised a few eyebrows in the Midlands, but the Poland international insisted that the opportunity to make the move to Albion was too good to turn down.

"Albion are a massive club. When I found out I could play for this team, I was really happy," Bielik told the club's official website.

"The Championship is one of the hardest leagues, you have to be ready for everything that’s coming. You have to be prepared, you have to be fit, you have to be strong physically and mentally.

"It’s nothing new for me, I’ve done it many times now, and I honestly can’t wait. I hope we can be very successful this season."

However, it has been a frustrating start to life at The Hawthorns for Bielik, who is yet to make his first appearance for the club, but after returning to the matchday squad for the defeat at Middlesbrough after a spell on the sidelines with injury, he will be hoping to kickstart his Baggies career.

As Bielik continues to settle into his new surroundings, we looked at how much his wages have increased since leaving Birmingham for West Brom.

How Krystian Bielik's wages have changed since swapping Birmingham City for West Brom

According to Capology, Bielik currently earns £25,000-a-week and £1,300,000-a-year at West Brom, although it should be stressed that those figures are an estimate.

As Bielik was believed to be on £20,000-a-week and £1,040,000-a-year at Birmingham, that means he has netted a £5,000 weekly increase in wages following his move to The Hawthorns, with a yearly salary rise of £260,000.

Despite only joining the club this summer, Bielik is thought to be the Baggies' joint-fourth highest earner along with Jed Wallace and Daryl Dike, and fellow new signings Phillips, Mepham, Taylor and Iling-Junior are the only players on bigger wages than the defender.

Phillips is Albion's top earner with a weekly salary of £40,000, with Mepham in second place at £35,000-a-week and Taylor and Iling-Junior in joint-third at £30,000-a-week, although as the latter is on loan from Aston Villa, it is likely his parent club will be contributing to his wages.

Now he is back to fitness, Bielik is facing a serious battle to force his way into the team with competition for places from the likes of Mepham, Phillips and Campbell, but given the sizeable salary he is taking home, the Baggies hierarchy will be hoping that he can repay their significant investment in him over the coming years.
