Liverpool travel to St James’ Park to face Newcastle United in what could be a fiery encounter on Monday night.

Alexander Isak’s ongoing dispute with Newcastle has unsurprisingly dominated headlines in the build up to the match. The Swedish international has been absent from the Magpies’ squad in recent weeks, publicly attempting to force a move to Liverpool. The Reds had a £110 million bid rejected for the striker.

What’s been said?

With the Isak transfer saga continuing to dominate headlines going into the game, Eddie Howe gave his latest update on the situation.

“My preference is these things do not happen publicly. They are better dealt with behind closed doors. But needs must. The club has spoken, and justifiably so in that moment.

“He’s contracted to us. He’s our player. My wish is that he would be playing on Monday. He won’t be, and that’s regrettable. But 100 percent I want him back in a Newcastle shirt.”

Arne Slot admitted that he is expecting a tough test for his side.

“It’s mainly difficult because of the players they have there, not only because of the fans. The atmosphere is great like it is at Anfield so we are used to a certain environment.

“But St James’ Park if I remember last season when it was an evening game – the atmosphere was amazing. But why is the atmosphere amazing? Because the players can perform.”
