Tyler Dibling’s transfer to Everton was one of the top transfer stories of the summer, and it’s a move that has worked out well for the youngster from a financial standpoint

The 19-year-old first caught mainstream attention last season for Southampton, where he showed glimpses of his natural ability despite operating in a struggling side that came close to breaking Derby County's record-low points tally by chalking just 12 points on the board.

Dibling scored on two occassions and showed no shortage of technical promise and talent, earning widespread interest as a result.

Excitement was only increased when it was revealed by The Telegraph that the Saints had put an outlandish £100m price tag on their academy product, with interest from top clubs across Europe flooding in.

In the end, as expected, Dibling went for considerably less than that asking price, but the player himself has still done well out of the deal, and Southampton managed to pocket a fairly-handsome fee, too.

Aside from a short spell at Chelsea inbetween, the Saints had Dibling in their academy system from being an eight-year-old, so when he was entering his latter teen years, they were well aware of the talent they had on their hands.

That’s why, at just 17, they took the relatively rare step of handing the youngster a multi-year professional contract.

Later that same year, they tied him down to a longer deal to further protect their asset, and estimates from Capology suggest that contract brought the teenager a weekly wage of £5k.

While that is an astounding sum of money for most people, and certainly for anyone Dibling’s age at that time, it made him one of the Saints’ lowest-paid players, according to estimates, which, given the fact he made 33 Premier League appearances in the 2024/25 season, feels like a significant undervaluation.

A move to a Premier League regular like Everton usually comes with a pay rise, and that appears to be the case with Dibling.

Having been touted for £100m at one stage, the Toffees managed to negotiate that down significantly to £42m, a big reduction on the original asking price, but still an eye-catching figure.

Such a transfer fee reflects the importance Everton placed on the deal, and agents will therefore demand that that importance is mirrored in the player’s personal contract.

According to Capology, that has seen Dibling clinch a £40k-per-week agreement, with £10k-per-week in unspecified bonus payments available.

Going just off the base wage, that’s a wage eight times higher than what he was receiving at Southampton, an increase he’ll certainly have noticed in his bank account.

His salary puts him higher on Everton’s wage bill than the likes of James Garner, Dwight McNeil and Jake O’Brien, so there’s little doubting how much he’s rated at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Everton landing Jack Grealish and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall has given Tyler Dibling a tough start

Despite the significant investment Everton have made in Dibling, he has not quite raced out of the blocks at his new club.

He has managed just three Premier League appearances so far, totalling 58 minutes altogether.

The Toffees had an incredible summer, not only landing Dibling but managing to agree deals for Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Jack Grealish, the latter temporarily.

Together with Iliman Ndiaye, those three make a formidable trio behind the striker in David Moyes’ 4-2-3-1.

While that has been good for Everton’s league position, it has not been the most advantageous setup for Dibling to find minutes.

Nevertheless, he is still incredibly young, with many his age still navigating academy football.

Everton will be sure not to rush Dibling; the amount of money they’ve invested in the youngster is evidence enough of what they think he will be capable of under their guidance.
