Hugo Moura and JP stood out as Vasco drew 0-0 with Barracas Central in Argentina in the Sudamericana.
According to Globo.com, Moura was decisive when he blocked Tobio’s effort inside the box, the hosts’ clearest opening. JP impressed in midfield, escaping pressure and sliding in Marino Hinestroza, who opted to return the ball instead of shooting.
Back after nearly three months, Colombian Carlos Cuesta was composed. Lucas Freitas cut out a second-half counter and Walace Falcão switched from a back three to left-back, solid despite one risky pass, while Daniel Fuzato erred in the build-up and saved one from distance.
Puma Rodríguez struggled, finishing one late surge by firing into touch, and he could have contributed more as a senior figure in a rotated side. Matheus França was busier and sent in a dangerous cross, then made way for Adson after the break.
Nuno Moreira produced a fair first half but dipped after the break, creating a good opening for Avellar and drawing the foul that brought a red card for Puig. Avellar offered overlaps and crosses, threatened before the interval and was taken off late after a poor challenge. Spinelli went close with a back-post header, linked well and his flick teed up Adson’s late miss.
Assistant Marcelo Salles used three centre-backs and a packed midfield. With limited cohesion and many youngsters, Vasco were superior and relatively secure, created chances but did not take them, so an away point was not a bad result.
