‘I don’t think‘ — Deco does not expect Barcelona to be active in the winter transfer window

FC Barcelona sporting director Deco has been a polarising figure. Some of his decisions have not gone down well with fans, and his transfer-market calls have been hit and miss.
For example, there are still many question marks over why Barcelona spent so much to bring in Dani Olmo at a time when the coffers were not exactly full. The rise of Fermin Lopez since has made this look like a redundant signing.
The decision to sell Inigo Martinez and not replace him is another move that looks very short-sighted right now. According to Mundo Deportivo, Deco was asked if Barcelona plan to do any business in the winter transfer window. He said:
“If we’re doing well and there are no surprises, I don’t think it’s necessary.”
The thing, though, is that Barcelona are not doing very well with all the injury issues and need reinforcements for squad depth. Even so, it looks extremely unlikely that Deco will look to bring someone in during January.
The Catalan club are not back to the 1:1 rule yet, making it a nightmare to register players for La Liga. They still have work to do with the situations of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and Joan Garcia before even thinking about signings.
Unless there is a major sale in January, signings look unlikely. Considering the current predicament of the squad, it appears Flick will have to be content with working with what he has, and let us hope he can maximise that.
