Manchester City’s bid to end the season with silverware is gathering pace, but their efforts continue to be shaped by a series of disruptive injuries. As Pep Guardiola’s side booked a third consecutive FA Cup final appearance with a victory over Nottingham Forest, the absence of key players loomed in the background.

The latest Man City injury update suggests that while some important returns are edging closer, others remain frustratingly out of reach.
The fitness of Erling Haaland remains a persistent concern. Out since suffering an ankle injury against Bournemouth last month, Haaland has yet to return to team training.
“He feels better,” Guardiola said last week. “I said before I don’t know when. It’s not a comfortable injury. You have some twist in your ankle and then taping. It’s not comfortable. He’s not a small guy but he’s getting better step by step. Still, he doesn’t train with the team but we will see how he does.”

Haaland’s power and physicality are pivotal to City’s attack, but any return before the Premier League finale remains in question.
Potential return date: Late May 2025
John Stones, another absentee, has not played since the bruising Champions League exit to Real Madrid. His thigh injury did not require surgery, but the projected recovery timeline placed him out for up to ten weeks. No fresh updates have been provided by Guardiola, although an early May return was initially forecasted.

Meanwhile, Nathan Ake’s season has been riddled with injury problems. A foot injury sustained in the FA Cup against Plymouth added to his long list of muscle concerns this season. Surgery was required, and the Dutchman’s hopes of featuring again in the Premier League are hanging by a thread.

Oscar Bobb’s first-team opportunities have been dashed repeatedly this campaign. A fractured leg suffered in pre-season derailed his development, and a fresh hamstring injury has ruled him out once more. Reports suggest it is doubtful whether Bobb will play again before the summer.
Potential return date: Late May 2025
Perhaps the most sensitive issue remains Rodri. The Ballon d’Or-winning midfielder, sidelined by an ACL injury since September, is stepping up his training workload. Guardiola is cautious about rushing him back.
“Every training session he does with us, he does well,” Guardiola said. “But I don’t know. Rodri wants [to play] but the doctor will have to say ‘Pep you have green light to give him minutes.’ I want to rely on the doctors in that case.”

Given the looming Club World Cup, City are keen to tread carefully with their prized midfielder.
Potential return date: June 2025
While City have coped admirably without some of their headline players, the injuries have undeniably shaped the rhythm of their season. Each update underscores a precarious balance: push for glory, but not at the expense of long-term health.
As the FA Cup final and the final stretch of the Premier League campaign approach, Guardiola faces difficult decisions over when and how to reintegrate his injured stars.
For now, the message is one of patience — but the clock is ticking.
