Denzel Dumfries returned to the scoresheet for the first time since scoring in a 5-0 thrashing of Udinese in Serie A round one.

Indeed, the 29-year-old was in the right place at the right time, turning home Marcus Thuram’s low cross to make it 2-0.

Furthermore, Dumfries’ goal arrived on the stroke of halftime, landing a vital psychological blow on the Czech champions.

Despite faring well defensively until that point, Jindrich Trpisovsky’s side fell apart in the second half.

Meanwhile, Lautaro Martinez tore Slavia’s defense apart, scoring on either side of halftime to cap off Inter’s standout win.

Though the Nerazzurri entered the game as favorites, Dumfries refuses to diminish the value of this triumph.

“It’s an important win,” Dumfries said after the game. “We’re just at the start of this journey, the tournament is tough, and every victory counts.

“I’m happy.”

Then, the former PSV Eindhoven defender explained Chivu’s tactical ideas.

“He wants us to play more vertically, to get at the attackers as much as possible,” Dumfries added.

“He’s a young coach but strong, and we’re happy with him.”

Finally, he highlighted the significance of beating Cremonese this weekend.

“It’s an important game for us because the break comes after,” Dumfries claimed.

“We have to win, we’re focused, playing at home, and we need to show we are Inter in every match.”

Inter head into proceedings in high spirits after putting together a four-game winning streak in all competitions.

Moreover, Chivu’s men have won their last two Serie A outings, netting precisely two goals on each occasion.

Therefore, they’ll be overwhelming favorites against newly promoted Cremonese on Saturday.
