Interest in defensive star Konaté: bad signs for Bayern? | OneFootball

FC Bayern are still keeping an eye on Ibrahima Konaté from Liverpool FC – but the latest developments at Anfield Road do not necessarily speak in favor of a move to Munich.

As Sky reporter Kerry Hau reports, there are currently many indications that the French international could extend his contract with the Reds.

„I didn’t get the impression that he was desperate to leave the club on a free transfer in the summer,“ explained Hau after an interview with the defender. „Of course, he didn’t want to and wasn’t allowed to say anything about his future by the club, but he seemed very happy and spoke very highly of his team-mates, coach Arne Slot and the club as a whole. That’s why there’s confidence at Anfield Road that he will extend his contract after all,“ added Hau.

This would significantly reduce FC Bayern’s chances of signing the 26-year-old. Konaté had recently been touted as a possible candidate in the event that Munich did not successfully conclude the current contract talks with Dayot Upamecano.

„On the other hand, it’s also clear that if a defender like Konaté comes onto the market for free at the prime age of 26, then all the top clubs will be watching,“ continued Hau. „Yes, FC Bayern are also monitoring the situation, although a contract extension with Dayot Upamecano remains an absolute priority for Max Eberl and co.“

Top clubs are interested in Konaté

In addition to Munich, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be showing great interest. PSG in particular could play a role in the poker game, as Konaté was born in Paris and still has many friends and family members there.

Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg also confirmed that Konaté’s name is on the agenda at Säbener Straße: „Yes, we have checked the Konaté rumors about Bayern.“ However, the scenario is currently „cold“. According to Plettenberg, the full focus is on the extension with Upamecano.

In other words: FC Bayern are keeping a close eye on the situation – but will only become active if something fundamental changes with Upamecano. Until then: the preferred candidate for the future in central defence is already playing in Munich.
