Torino defender Alessandro Buongiorno finds himself at a crossroads as Inter Milan look to overtake Napoli at the eleventh hour.

The 25-year-old is a youth product of the Granata who rose through the club’s ranks and established himself as one of the finest defenders in Italian football.

Buongiorno is coming off a solid campaign with Torino which earned him interest from some of the biggest clubs in Serie A.

News reports had linked the Italian with a move to Inter during the season, but the story somewhat faded in recent months.

On the contrary, it was Napoli who emerged as the primary candidate to seal the deal.

Nevertheless, the player’s agent Bepe Riso stole the headlines this evening with his eyebrow-raising comments.

Riso held meetings with both Napoli and Inter today. But while leaving the Nerazzurri’s headquarters, he teased a potential twist that would see Buongiorno joining Simone Inzaghi’s ranks.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio sheds some light on the situation.

As the transfer guru tells it, Napoli and Torino have already found an accord over Buongiorno. The deal would cost the Partnenopei 35 million euros in addition to 5M in bonuses.

Alessandro Buongiorno To Decide Between Accepting Napoli Offer & Waiting For Inter Milan

Nevertheless, the Southerns have yet to agree personal terms with the player and his agent. The two parties are still discussing the possible insertion of a release clause worth 70 million that would become valid after three years.

This delay allowed Inter to re-enter the race. The Italian champions are reportedly seeking a new defender to make up for Tajon Buchanan’s injury (with Carlos Augusto moving back to the wingback slot).

However, the Nerazzurri would need some time to raise funds. They could potentially do so by selling Stefan de Vrij who has suitors in the Saudi Pro League.

Therefore, Buongiorno and Riso have an important decision to make. Either they accept Napoli’s offer immediately and put an end to the saga, or wait for Inter’s proposal.

It remains to be seen when the defender will render a definitive answer.
