João Pedro Tchoca sale could enter Corinthians' all-time transfer rankings

The negotiation involving João Pedro Tchoca could make the defender one of the highest-selling center-backs in Corinthians’ history for the position. The defender’s departure was made official last Sunday, after being loaned to Torino, in Italy, with a contract valid until June 2026.

The agreement provides for a payment of 1.5 million euros for the player’s loan. At the end of the period, the Italian club will have the option to purchase, set at 4.5 million euros. In addition, the contract includes goals that could yield another one million euros to Corinthians, totaling up to seven million euros in the deal.

If all agreements are met, João Pedro will become the fourth highest sale of a center-back in the club’s history in nominal values in the European currency. Considering the conversion to Brazilian reais and monetary correction, the defender would appear in fifth place in the historical ranking.

According to information from Meu Timão, Murillo leads the list of the most expensive center-backs sold by Corinthians in euros, negotiated for 12 million euros with Nottingham Forest in 2023. Next are Gil, sold to Shandong Luneng for 10 million euros, João Victor, transferred to Benfica for eight million euros, and João Pedro Tchoca, who could reach seven million euros if contractual goals are met.

Other important names complete the ranking, such as Felipe and Marquinhos, both sold for six million euros, in addition to Leandro Castán and Fábio Luciano. In the case of the former world champion captain in 2000, the transaction with Fenerbahçe was adjusted to R$ 86.9 million in today’s currency, although only a part was passed on to Corinthians, since the economic rights mostly belonged to an investment fund.

The monetary correction in reais significantly changes the historical ranking. With the updated values, Fábio Luciano appears as the highest sale of a center-back from Corinthians in national currency, followed by Gil, Murillo, and Felipe. João Pedro, if the sale with goals is completed, could reach approximately R$ 43.8 million, a value that would place him close to athletes like João Victor and Marquinhos.

One point that differentiates João Pedro’s negotiation from other transfers is Corinthians’ participation in the economic rights. The club holds 75% of the defender, while, for example, it owned 100% of Marquinhos at the time of his sale to Roma, even though both were negotiated under the same model: loan with purchase option.

Corinthians continues its preparations for the debut in the Brazilian Championship, against Bahia, this Wednesday (28), at 8 p.m. (Brasília time) at Vila Belmiro, in Santos.
