Ben Chilwell finally sealed his Chelsea exit on deadline day and Joe Cole believes his move to Crystal Palace is “massive.”

Chilwell completed a deadline day move to Selhurst Park, where he will spend the remainder of the campaign, and he was one of five players the Blues sent out on loan.

Joao Felix, Renato Veiga, Carney Chukwuemeka and Axel Disasi all completed deadline day loan moves away from Stamford Bridge in order to get more regular first team football.

Cole hails Chilwell Palace move as “massive”

Chilwell has only played 45 minutes of football this season against Barrow in the Carabao Cup, after it was made to clear to him in pre-season he wasn’t part of Enzo Maresca’s plans for the season.

The 28-year old was sent to train with the “bomb” squad, but after a summer exit failed to materialise he’s been back training with the first team.

Chilwell has struggled with injury issues in recent seasons, but he’s still a top player and a high profile name, who’s won the Champions League during his time at Stamford Bridge.

Palace is a great option for left back, who will have a chance to play regular football in a back three system which he thrived in at Chelsea.

England boss Thomas Tuchel hasn’t ruled Chilwell out of selection for the national team, and Cole feels the move to the Eagles is a “massive” one.

“Massive move for him,” he told the Premier League’s official website.

“He’s been in that situation where he got put on a long contract. He broke down with injuries and all of a sudden you’re surplus to requirements.

“It’s a good move for him to get out there and play games of football. I think the way Palace play with wing-backs will suit him down to the ground.

“I think he’s a really talented boy. I think he’ll kick on and it’ll play very well. I think it sorts every party involved.”

Given his lack of action it might be a few weeks until Chilwell makes his Palace debut given he will need to build up his match fitness, but Chelsea will hope he we does well ahead of what seems like an inevitable summer exit.
