Joey Barton remanded in custody over alleged assault near golf club | OneFootball

Joey Barton has been remanded in custody after appearing at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court charged over an alleged assault near a golf club.

According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the 43-year-old, from Widnes, Cheshire, appeared alongside Gary O’Grady, 50, from Huyton, Merseyside, on Tuesday afternoon and spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth.

The men are accused of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm against Kevin Lynch at Fairway, Huyton, on Sunday. Prosecutor Chelsea Kearns said Mr Lynch, 51, had been drinking with the pair at Huyton and Prescot Golf Club, and that footage appeared to show Barton and Mr Lynch in a heated discussion.

They then went outside, where a witness reported seeing a man assaulted and an ambulance was called. Mr Lynch was said to be in a serious but stable condition in hospital, with a possibility he may lose sight in one eye.

The case was sent to Liverpool Crown Court for a plea hearing on April 7. District Judge James Hatton remanded Barton in custody until that date, while O’Grady was released on conditional bail.

Barton has also been charged with wounding with intent.
