Jonas turns 42 today, a Benfica idol whose goals and trophies marked a prolific spell at the club.

According to Glorioso 1904, the former striker, nicknamed "o Pistolas", was a key figure, delivering many goals and joy to supporters.

Born in Taiúva, São Paulo state, on 1 April 1984, he came through Brazilian football. He made his professional debut for Guarani in 2005, spending one season before moving to Santos.

After standout campaigns in Brazil, he joined Valencia in 2010/2011. He spent four seasons in Spain, playing 156 matches and scoring 51 goals.

Jonas arrived at Estádio da Luz on a free in 2014 and quickly became an attacking talisman. Across five seasons he became Benfica’s second-highest foreign scorer, behind Óscar Tacuara Cardozo, and set a debut-season record of 31 goals.

Between 2014 and 2019 he made 183 official appearances, contributing 137 goals and 36 assists. He ended his career the following season due to a chronic back injury and later opened a pharmacy in Brazil. He departed the club aged 35 with four league titles, one Taça de Portugal, two Supertaças Cândido de Oliveira and two Taças da Liga.
