José Carlos Esteves, former Porto club doctor and long-time head of the medical department, has died from cancer aged 77.
The club said in a statement that he led the medical department for years, received the Dragões de Ouro Career Award in 2020, and served Porto for about three decades.

During that time he witnessed the Penta, the UEFA Cup, the Champions League, and numerous Taças de Portugal and Supertaças Cândido de Oliveira.
Porto expressed deep sorrow and offered condolences to his family and friends.
He worked with generations of players and coaching teams who, like him, are regarded as part of the club’s historical heritage.
