Germany head coach Julian Nagelsmann is expected to tender his resignation to the German federation after their World Cup last 32 exit to Paraguay, Bild and Sky Sport DE report.

After four days of uncertainty, a decision appears to have been made. The 38-year-old had initially ruled out quitting, saying on Tuesday that he was not the type to walk away.

Germany were beaten in the last 32, drawing 1-1 then losing 3-4 on penalties. By stepping down he would pre-empt any dismissal and give up a contract worth eight million euros per year running to Euro 2028.

Appointed in September 2023, Nagelsmann delivered a mixed tenure, including a Euro 2024 quarter-final defeat, 1-2 against Spain, who went on to win the tournament.

Jürgen Klopp could replace him, with his name circulating within the German federation.
