The Next Gen side is proving to be a profitable exploit for Juventus, who have raised over €200m in revenue over the last three years through selling players from the club’s affiliated reserve team.

Juventus were the first of the Serie A sides to launch a reserve team in the Italian professional leagues. Juventus U23 came into effect in 2018, and was later renamed ‘Next Gen’ in 2022.

A number of now high-profile players have graduated from Juve’s reserve side over the last few years, including the likes of Dean Huijsen, now at Real Madrid, Matias Soule, now at Roma, and Koni De Winter, who recently joined Milan at a cost of €20m.

The most recent Next Gen departure was the sale of Nicolo Savona to Premier League side Nottingham Forest. The 22-year-old brought in a fee just above the €15m mark after playing for one season in Serie A under Thiago Motta last term.

Juventus also sold Samuel Mbangula, who had a similar rise to the Juventus first-team set-up last season, to Werder Bremen for a fee in the region of €10m.

The sales of Mbangula and Savona came after the departure of Nicolo Fagioli, who joined Fiorentina on loan with an obligation to buy in January. That deal brought in another €19m for the Bianconeri.

The most profitable Next Gen sale in the last three years has been that of Matias Soule, who joined Roma at a cost of €30m including bonuses last summer.
