Kalvin Phillips is finalising a second season-long loan to Sheffield United for 2026/27, The Daily Mail reports, with Chris Wilder said to be keen on a reunion.

The 30-year-old returned to Manchester City this summer but was omitted from Enzo Maresca’s 28-man squad for the pre-season tour of Asia on Tuesday evening.

Phillips joined the Blades for the second half of last season and made three appearances. He was sent off against Sheffield Wednesday, suffered a knee injury in that game and underwent surgery, which ended the spell.

He has two years left on the six-year deal signed when leaving Leeds for City in 2022, yet he has no future at the Etihad. Before January, last season brought one eight-minute outing in a 3-0 Carabao Cup win over Huddersfield Town.

Across four years at City, he has started just two Premier League matches. Top-flight loans at Ipswich Town and West Ham disappointed amid injuries and limited sharpness.

Earlier this summer, The Star reported that Phillips would welcome a Bramall Lane return, with living closer to family a factor. He was also believed to have positively influenced young midfielders Oliver Arblaster and Sydie Peck, aged 22 and 21.

A move back would reunite the Leeds promotion hero with former Elland Road team-mate Patrick Bamford, who joined on a free last year and signed an 18-month deal in January after an initial short-term contract.
