Kevin Keegan died of cancer on Monday aged 75, L'Équipe reports. England is mourning a figure it adored.
He won the Ballon d'Or twice, in 1978 and 1979, and later managed Newcastle and the Three Lions.
A magnetic forward whose rise began at Liverpool, he even made Kevin a name parents chose, long before the soap opera.
In May he made a final public appearance in Newcastle, the city that had made him a hero after his own heart.
He said his cancer was very advanced, and England had time to prepare for the loss of one of its most magnificent and popular figures.
