The next tricky personnel issue is looming in the background at FC Bayern. Vincent Kompany and those responsible will have to deal with two returnees in the summer. The situation is coming to a head for Joao Palhinha and Bryan Zaragoza.
The prospects for both players on loan have recently become much bleaker. According to BILD, it is currently very unlikely that either Tottenham Hotspur or AS Roma will exercise their agreed purchase options. There are therefore many indications that both players will return to Munich in the summer.
In the case of Joao Palhinha, Bayern had originally counted on a permanent transfer. The agreed transfer fee with Tottenham was around 30 million euros. However, Spurs‘ difficult sporting situation with coaching changes and relegation worries means that it is increasingly unlikely that the Portuguese will stay. He is also no longer unchallenged in England in sporting terms. After a strong start, he has recently fluctuated between starting line-up and substitute.
While Palhinha was once considered an important reinforcement in Munich, he no longer plays a role in the current considerations at Säbener Straße. Internally, the club has long relied on Joshua Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlovic in the center, with young options such as Tom Bischof also moving up.

The situation with Bryan Zaragoza is even more complicated. A purchase option worth around 13 million euros was agreed with AS Roma for the winger, which would have become binding under certain conditions. In addition to qualifying for the European Cup, the Spaniard would have had to play at least 50 per cent of the possible minutes.
While Roma are in the race for international places in the table, Zaragoza’s playing time is clearly failing. In the league, he is only getting a fraction of the minutes, and internationally he is not even close to the required mark. Recently, the attacking player has not been in the squad at all on several occasions and hardly plays a role in the sport.
Bayern had already deliberately steered the loan to Rome in the winter, as the chances of a permanent transfer were considered to be higher there than with other interested parties. This calculation does not seem to have worked out now. After all, Munich have secured themselves financially through loan fees and contractual clauses.
Both Palhinha and Zaragoza are on the verge of a return to Munich – albeit without any real prospects. According to BILD, Vincent Kompany is not planning to keep the duo for the coming season, which is why the club will have to find new solutions on the transfer market in the summer.
