Kylian Mbappé welcomes Zinédine Zidane as new France head coach | OneFootball

Kylian Mbappé, France captain and record scorer, welcomed Zinédine Zidane’s appointment on Tuesday, posting “Bienvenue chez toi” on Instagram after the hire was confirmed earlier in the day.

According to Le Parisien, Mbappé should keep the captaincy under Zidane. The new era is due to start on 25 September with an away trip to Türkiye to open a fresh Nations League campaign.

Zidane, 54, replaces Didier Deschamps after a 14-year tenure that ended with fourth place at the World Cup in North America. Mbappé finished that tournament as top scorer with 10 goals.

At his unveiling, Zidane said he had not yet spoken with Mbappé, stressing that rest matters most for now. He added that discussions with the forward and the squad will follow in September.

Mbappé, currently on holiday, is a Real Madrid forward and has 66 goals for France.
