Lazio and Fenerbahce have reached an agreement in principle over the transfer of midfielder Matteo Guendouzi, according to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

Fenerbahce will pay €28 million up front plus €2m in add-ons, concluding negotiations that intensified earlier this week.

Personal terms have long been in place, with Guendouzi ready to sign a contract until 2030, worth around €4m per season.

Guendouzi has been convinced by the central role he is expected to play in Istanbul, where Fenerbahce are competing with city rivals Galatasaray for the Super Lig title.

The former Arsenal midfielder has been a regular under Maurizio Sarri, but Lazio’s need to raise funds and reshape the squad has opened the door to a departure.

Cashing in on Guendouzi so soon after selling Taty Castellanos to West Ham United represents another significant outgoing for Lazio.

The moves should allow the club to return to the market for reinforcements as they seek to turn around an underwhelming campaign.

I Biancocelesti have AC Milan’s Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Atalanta’s Daniel Maldini high on their target list and are expected to step up interest in both players.

Guendouzi will be available for Lazio’s upcoming Serie A fixtures against Fiorentina and Verona before flying out to complete his move early next week.
