Leeds United teenager Harry Gray has returned to Thorp Arch for treatment on a hamstring strain sustained on loan at Rotherham United, with Lee Clark now in charge after Matt Hamshaw’s sacking. Clark does not believe the 17-year-old’s season is over.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, Gray had been ever present since joining in January to aid the Millers’ survival push, but missed the midweek drubbing by Peterborough United. The following day Hamshaw was dismissed and Clark appointed. Gray is set to miss the first couple of weeks of Clark’s reign.
Clark said it is common for young loanees to rehab with their parent club and that Leeds’ facilities can help. He added they are hopeful Gray could be available for the next batch of matches after Saturday.
Hamshaw rated Gray highly and the promise of regular minutes helped seal the January move. Clark considers the forward exciting and wants him back involved swiftly. He said injuries have blighted the campaign and hopes to have players fit for the remaining eight games.
Rotherham visit league-leading Lincoln City on Saturday, managed by former Leeds coach Michael Skubala, then host Stevenage at New York Stadium. Gray’s injury is thought to be relatively minor and should keep him out for only two to three weeks at most.
