Leeds United have 12 first team players away on international duty this week, thinning Daniel Farke’s group at Thorp Arch.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, six are in World Cup qualifying action this evening, with friendlies for the rest, in a key window for nations heading to the USA, Canada and Mexico this summer.
The absences hand fringe players a chance to impress, yet they also disrupt Farke’s sessions. He will welcome his stars on the world stage, although he would have preferred a fortnight of uninterrupted work.
Leeds have not lost as many as some Premier League sides, but they are far better stocked with internationals than relegation rivals such as West Ham and Nottingham Forest. Could that difference matter in the survival fight?
The most affected squads include Manchester City with 18 call-ups, Crystal Palace 16 and Arsenal 15. Manchester United, Liverpool and Everton each have 13 away with their countries.
