Leeds United supporters halted Uruguay’s team bus outside Wembley to salute former manager Marcelo Bielsa after England’s 1-1 draw with Uruguay.

According to Leeds Live, affection for the 70-year-old remains undimmed four years after he left Elland Road. Supporters have travelled to Uruguay games or events to back the coach who restored Premier League football to the club.

The match finished 1-1 at Wembley, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin coming off the bench. After full time, a group of Leeds fans waited by the stadium for the Uruguay coach to depart.

Waving Argentina and Leeds flags and holding a large banner, they briefly delayed the bus while chanting Bielsa’s name. Bielsa responded with a wave in appreciation.

Bielsa said: "Being at Leeds gave me the most beautiful memories and one of the best gifts football has given me."

He added: "The power that English football really has is based on the fans and the unconditional love of the supporters to build a great league. This English league would not be what it is if it were not for how their fans feel."
