Leeds United are tracking Union Berlin centre-back Danilho Doekhi but, at this stage, there has been no move for the 27-year-old. The club’s January focus is expected to lean towards attacking additions, likely via loans due to PSR constraints.
Much of the noise around Doekhi is said to be agent-led as his contract runs down. His deal expires this summer, and he can now agree a pre-contract with clubs outside Germany.
Permanent buys remain possible, but any outlay would need to be balanced by June 30.
Leeds are not currently expected to recruit a goalkeeper despite Daniel Farke publicly criticising summer signing Lucas Perri over Manchester United’s equaliser and Newcastle United’s winner last week. Karl Darlow is second choice, with Illan Meslier and Alex Cairns behind.
Some fans have floated Manchester City understudy James Trafford, but Pep Guardiola has ruled out a January exit and said he wants the keeper to stay long term, while acknowledging the position is a special case.
Joel Piroe has switched allegiance to Suriname through his father’s lineage, having never been capped by the Netherlands. He said the decision would make his father proud. Suriname face Bolivia in March in the World Cup play-offs, with Iraq awaiting the winners for a place at this summer’s finals.
“He really got me thinking and convinced me to make this choice.” “Ten Cate has an openness and honesty that immediately resonated with me,” he told Voetbal International.
