Leeds United star Harry Gray’s immediate impact at Rotherham is credited by manager Matt Hamshaw with helping the Millers land deadline-day loans from Manchester United and Aston Villa. The 17-year-old has scored twice in four matches.
After Gray netted in a 4-0 win over Exeter City, Rotherham added Gabriele Biancheri and Lino Sousa on loan from those clubs. “We can give these players a platform. Harry Gray has had a big impact,” he told The Yorkshire Post.
His arrival has coincided with an upturn. Rotherham had gone nine League One games without a win before he signed. His debut brought defeat to Stockport County, then came a draw and two victories, Gray scoring in both wins.
Leeds also stand to gain from the step into senior football. Gray said last month he pushed for a loan to face first-team opposition and to play and score regularly, and he is getting the minutes he wanted.
With Dominic Calvert-Lewin in form, Lukas Nmecha covering and Joel Piroe and Noah Okafor options up front, first-team minutes at Leeds looked unlikely. Daniel Farke said on Wednesday the loan has been positive so far. Gray could make it three in three when Cardiff City visit on Saturday, and a result could lift the Millers out of the drop zone depending on other results, though they face the current League One leaders.
