Chelsea appear poised to land 22-year-old Xavi Simons, who left PSG earlier this year, with Arsenal also competing for his signature. Regardless of where Simons lands, the Parisians stand to benefit financially from the transfer.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano previously reported that Leipzig signed Simons for €80 million, with €55 million paid upfront. The Dutch midfielder is under contract until June 2027, and PSG made sure to include a sell-on clause that guarantees them a cut of any future transfer fee.

That strategy is already paying off for PSG. According to Adam Crafton of The Athletic, the French club recently received €17 million (£15 million) from Hugo Ekitiké’s move to Liverpool thanks to a similar clause.

Romano also mentioned that Chelsea are making real progress in talks over personal terms. Simons is reportedly open to the move and interested in joining the Premier League side, though the discussions are still ongoing.

Romano reports that RB Leipzig is currently discussing contract terms with Harvey Elliott ahead of a formal bid. The German club views Elliott as a key replacement for Simons in their squad.

Earlier this week, The Athletic revealed that Leipzig has reached out to Liverpool about a potential Elliott signing. While talks aren’t yet at an advanced stage, the two clubs continue to hold discussions.

Elliott played 28 times across all competitions last season, scoring five goals and providing three assists. Leipzig appears to be making steady progress, assessing the player’s interest in a possible move to Germany.

It will be interesting to see whether Leipzig finalizes the deal for Elliott or decides to let Simons go without a direct replacement in place.
