Adrien Thomasson and Florian Thauvin spearheaded Lens’s 3-0 victory over Metz, dictating a one-sided contest with decisive contributions.
L'Équipe highlighted Thomasson’s central role. His cross led to the opener at 44 minutes after Sima pounced on Alpha Touré’s miscue to tee up Saud Abdulhamid. He then delivered his eighth assist of the season for Thauvin seconds after the restart.
Abdulhamid, rarely troubled at the back, struck a crisp right-footed half-volley, the first Ligue 1 goal by a Saudi player.
Haidara came on at half-time and later opened his Lens account, exchanging passes with Matthieu Udol after Thomasson found him.
Thauvin buzzed across both flanks, initiating the move for the opener with a neat left-sided dribble, before making way for Florian Sotoca on 63 minutes.
By contrast, Odsonne Édouard was wasteful, missing chances at 25, 41 and 43 minutes and overhitting a pass to Thauvin at 45+3. A back-heel to Sima hinted at better, but he was replaced by Rayan Fofana on 63 minutes.
Metz’s midfield and attack struggled. Alpha Touré was overrun and his poor touch aided the opener, he was booked for fouling Sangaré at 48 and later missed from a Gauthier Hein cross. Giorgi Kvilitaia toiled and was outmuscled by Ganiou before departing on 54, while Habib Diallo was inches short of a Mbala cross on 57 and Fodé Ballo-Touré was withdrawn on 72.
