Following months of speculation about his future, it is now confirmed that Leon Goretzka will leave Bayern Munich as a free agent when his contract expires this summer.
After Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund broke the news on Friday, the 30-year-old midfielder shared an emotional statement with the club’s fans on Instagram.
“Dear fans. The past few days have been more turbulent than expected. At the same time, they have brought clarity,” Goretzka wrote.
"As much as I am honoured by the interest from top international clubs, I have clearly decided for myself that I want to stay with FC Bayern until the end of the season. With a team that is incredibly fun both on and off the pitch, and a coach who has turned our squad into a true unit! I feel committed to this team and this club. Our shared goal is to be back at Marienplatz in May with our hands full, and this time celebrating the biggest titles together with you!
"At the same time, the club and I have decided in good and constructive discussions that our successful time together will come to an end this summer. As I have said before, it is the right time for me to start a new chapter – both as a footballer and as a person.
"But before that, there is still much to do. Let’s give everything together to achieve maximum success this season with FC Bayern and with the national team at the World Cup! I’m looking forward to it! Thank you for your support! 2026! Mia san Mia!Leon."
