Facing Coritiba in the Brasileirão on Saturday 30, Flamengo are contending with a raft of absences as national teams begin World Cup preparations. Head coach Leonardo Jardim has drafted in academy players to bolster first-team training ahead of the Maracanã clash.
According to Coluna Do Fla, after a day off on Wednesday 27, the squad reported to Ninho do Urubu on Thursday morning, where Daniel Sales, Johnny, João Victor and Daniel Thuram took a full part in the session led by Jardim. Joshua, Kaio Nóbrega and Sayago were also involved.
The youngsters are being assessed by Jardim, with the Portuguese coach keen to observe and hand chances to academy talent. That approach has not yet been implemented at Flamengo, given the congested calendar since his arrival.
In recent interviews, Jardim has underlined the importance of the youth set-up and said he will use the World Cup break to evaluate several Ninho prospects alongside the senior group.
The squad will train on Friday afternoon 29 at Ninho do Urubu, when Jardim will outline his starting side for Coritiba. Kick-off is 16:00 Brasília time at the Maracanã on Saturday 30.
