Ligue 1+, the LFP’s streaming platform, has agreed a €20 million pay-TV deal with FIFA to show the entire 2026 World Cup, in the United States, Canada and Mexico from 11 June to 19 July, including 54 matches already acquired by M6 for free-to-air that would be co-broadcast, according to L'Équipe.
At Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 meetings on Wednesday morning, LFP Media director general Nicolas de Tavernost told clubs an agreement with FIFA was in place and a contract signed. The deal comprises €18 million in rights and €2 million in production.
For Ligue 1+, the plan would bridge the end-of-season gap, with nearly three months without Ligue 1 fixtures.
Clubs approved the initiative unanimously, but it still requires ratification by the FIFA Council. This is normally a formality.
Attention will turn to beIN Sports, which has always carried World Cups alongside a free-to-air partner. Nasser al-Khelaïfi, president of Paris Saint-Germain and beIN Media Group, is close to FIFA chief Gianni Infantino.
