It has been a bitterly disappointing campaign for Burnley fans. After flying high in the Championship last year, the Clarets have crashed straight back down to earth, with their relegation from the Premier League recently confirmed.
Now, the post-mortem has begun at Turf Moor. At the center of the storm is manager Scott Parker, whose future is currently hanging by a thread.
But as the club prepares for life back in the second tier, a massive name is reportedly waiting in the wings to take over: Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard.
Discussions are actively ongoing between Parker and the club’s hierarchy, and there is a very realistic chance that the two parties could agree to an amicable split.
If Parker does pack his bags, Gerrard is reportedly at the very top of Burnley’s managerial shortlist.
The 45-year-old has been out of work for 15 months since leaving Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ettifaq back in January 2025.
While he has spent the last year doing punditry, the Liverpool legend would reportedly jump at the chace to return to management
Gerrard won’t have a free run at the job, either. Another ex-Liverpool player, Craig Bellamy, is also heavily in the frame.
Bellamy is currently managing the Wales national team but is highly appreciated at Turf Moor, having previously served as an assistant to Vincent Kompany at the club.
Burnley are facing a massive summer rebuild. They need a manager who can instantly galvanise a fractured dressing room and navigate the grueling Championship schedule.
Whether the hierarchy decides to stick with Parker, roll the dice on the fiery passion of Bellamy, or hand the keys to a desperate-to-prove-himself Gerrard, the next few weeks at Turf Moor are going steven gerrarto be absolutely fascinating.
