In a surprising twist of fate, it appears Liverpool might be on the verge of targeting a Real Madrid target in order to replace another Real Madrid target.
Indeed, a recent report from SportBild suggests Liverpool are interested in the services of Dayot Upamecano, the Bayern Munich defender.
Upamecano has emerged as a potential replacement for Ibrahima Konate, who is likely to join Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer.
This is quite an interesting development considering the fact that Upamecano has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid as well.
In fact, reports earlier in the month suggested that the Frenchman has offered himself to Real Madrid, essentially giving Los Blancos the opportunity to sign him on a free transfer next summer.
That is because Upamecano’s current contract at Bayern Munich expires at the end of the season and the player is unlikely to renew his contract.

Now, Liverpool, too, have joined the race to sign the former RB Leipzig star, who has featured in over 200 Bundesliga matches during his career.
This is unlikely to faze Real Madrid, though, as the Spanish giants do not consider Upamecano a priority target and are more interested in Konate, his teammate in the French national team.
Real Madrid are also interested in the services of William Saliba, the Arsenal superstar, although the club fear that he may soon extend his contract at the Emirates.
In any case, Xabi Alonso’s side looks set to sign Konate on a free transfer, in what can prove to be a major coup for the club that have already roped in the likes of David Alaba, Antonio Rudiger, and Kylian Mbappe on Bosman deals in recent years.
