Liverpool have suffered yet another massive injury blow. The Reds can't catch a break this season.

Jeremie Frimpong has picked up another injury after being forced off in the Netherlands' 1-1 draw with Ecuador. Frimpong didn't actually start the fixture but came on as a half-time substitute for Cody Gakpo.

But the right-back lasted just 15 minutes. He went off with an injury and one that Ronald Koeman labelled 'a real setback'.

Liverpool have battled against injury all season long, with several first-team players out long-term. Frimpong has been one of the worst-hit players - this would be his fourth absence from the team, should he require a spell on the sidelines.

Making matters worse is Conor Bradley being gone for the season. It means Dominik Szoboszlai almost certainly needs to sit at right-back once again.

Liverpool will have to shift things around, then. Frimpong's injury comes at an awful time for the side and right before a massive clash with Manchester City in the FA Cup.

Jeremie Frimpong: Situation Summary

Liverpool Performance and Role

Jeremie Frimpong has navigated a challenging debut season at Liverpool after joining from Bayer Leverkusen in July 2025. Signed as the successor to Trent Alexander-Arnold, the 25-year-old right-back has struggled with consistent injury setbacks that have hampered his integration into Arne Slot’s system. When fit, he has demonstrated his trademark pace and offensive threat, appearing in 15 Premier League matches with a 90% passing completion rate. His ability to act as a wing-back or wide midfielder has provided tactical flexibility, though he is currently working to regain full match sharpness following a series of muscle issues.

Injury Status and Return

The Dutch international’s campaign has been defined by a recurring hamstring problem and most recently a muscle injury sustained during a Champions League fixture against Qarabag in late January 2026. After missing several weeks, including key fixtures against Brighton and Nottingham Forest, Frimpong returned to the squad in March. He featured for the Netherlands during the international break and is now fully reintegrated into Liverpool's first-team training. With Conor Bradley sidelined long-term, Frimpong’s return to fitness is critical as Liverpool enters the final stretch of the season competing for Champions League qualification.
