Mario is in prolific form, his goals underpinning Mestalla's survival bid. The striker hit a brace in the win over Terrassa, which doubled as Óscar Sánchez's first match in charge of the reserve side.
According to AS, he has five in his last four outings and whenever he has scored, Mestalla have at least drawn. That sequence totals 11 goals across 10 matches, yielding eight draws and two wins, with his recent burst alone worth six points.
His long knee lay-off, 18 months in all, now feels behind him. He says he is happy to be contributing again and to feel like his old self.
His contract expires on 30 June and Valencia must decide on his future. The club hold an option to extend by several seasons, a mechanism that also carries obligations over a project and a pathway towards the first team for the Under-19 international.
Mario would like to stay for many years, though he insists he is focused on daily work and helping the team. Clubs are enquiring about his status. With April under way and the deal running down, his next step first hinges on Valencia's decision and the terms on any renewal.
