Lucas Veríssimo’s wife has outlined the family’s struggle to leave Qatar and return to Brazil, with the newly signed Santos defender currently in Dubai where airspace is closed.

According to Globo.com, the war in the Middle East that began last week led to attacks on United States bases in Qatar and has halted commercial and private flights to Brazil.

On social media, Amanda Farias set out why they have not left, prioritising the safety of their children, two dogs and a member of staff. She ruled out a land route via Saudi Arabia amid bombardments and official warnings, added that animals had been turned away at crossings, and insisted the whole household would leave together.

She also shared an official alert warning of a high security threat level and advising people to stay indoors, keep away from windows and avoid public areas.

The family had spent recent days packing to return to Brazil, and now await a pause in fighting and the reopening of airspace to leave the country.

Veríssimo has played in Qatar since 2024 after leaving Corinthians for Al-Duhail, and he was loaned to Al-Wakrah this year.

Santos made an offer worth around four million euros for 70% of his economic rights, to be paid over four years, with the first instalment due in December.

The confrontation began on 28 and reached its sixth day on Thursday.
