January has been a tough month for managers at Europe’s biggest clubs, with Manchester United, Chelsea and Real Madrid all pulling the trigger.
Chelsea have replaced Enzo Maresca with Liam Rosenior. Meanwhile, Alvaro Arbeloa has taken charge of Los Blancos for the time being, but it is believed Real want to keep their options open.
Considering how limited the managerial market is, it would not surprise many if Real and United find themselves chasing the same tactician.
According to The Mirror, Manchester United have made Luis Enrique one of their “main targets” in their search for a permanent manager.
The Spaniard, who is currently leading Paris Saint-Germain, is arguably one of the best managers in Europe, having led the French giants to a Champions League title and the final of the Club World Cup.
The former Barcelona and AS Roma manager is known for his proactive style of football and has 18 trophies to his name to underline the effectiveness of his ideas.
Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Enrique is ready for a “new challenge in another league, the Premier League [with] Manchester United.”
Now, Fichajes claim Real Madrid are considering the possibility of hiring Enrique.
Figures at the Santiago Bernabeu are keen to appoint a coach with “character” and the ability to manage a “dressing room full of egos”. Xabi Alonso lost his job after failing to get all Real players on his side.
Having managed Barcelona and PSG, Enrique has shown he is capable of dealing with high-profile stars.
The Spanish outlet, however, adds that Real might find it difficult to convince Enrique to choose their project, owing to their shared past.
As a player, he ran down his contract in Madrid before joining Barca.
