Lyon secure Europa League last 16, their 23rd in Europe

Lyon sealed a Europa League last-16 place in Bern on Thursday, clinching qualification with one matchday remaining.

According to Le Progres, it is the 23rd time in their history they have reached a European last 16, and the 18th of the 21st century.

There have been 11 in the Champions League between 2004 and 2020. Six have come in the Europa League, in 2014, 2017, 2018, 2022, 2025 and 2026. They also made the last 16 three times in the UEFA Cup, in 1995, 1998 and 2002, and three times in the Cup Winners’ Cup, in 1963, 1976 and 1973.

Lyon will learn their opponents for the 2025-26 Europa League last 16 on 27 February, after the qualification play-offs.

At this stage last year, they defeated FCS Bucarest.
