M6 will keep all 54 of its 2026 World Cup matches, ending hopes of a sub-licensing deal and leaving TF1 without any games, after launching advertising sales on Thursday.
According to L'Équipe, M6 had considered selling 10 to 15 matches from its package, rights secured in March 2024 for nearly 120 million euros, but has now opted to retain everything for the tournament running 11 June to 19 July.
President David Larramendy said the group is delighted to show the event, expects audiences across France to follow coverage on M6 and M6+, and expressed support for Didier Deschamps’ Bleus.
The priciest slot, between extra time and penalties of a potential final involving the Bleus, is set at 500,000 euros gross for 20 seconds, or 220,000 without France. Mandatory hydration breaks, one per half, add inventory, with final slots priced at 425,000 euros if France play and 250,000 otherwise.
For pay coverage of all 104 matches, Ligue 1+ has submitted an offer of nearly 20 million euros to FIFA and sent a contract that still needs final approval.
M6 also confirmed Xavier Domergue will commentate the biggest fixtures and Ophélie Meunier will host pre and post-match shows. Smaïl Bouabdellah would work on Ligue 1+ during the tournament if the platform completes its acquisition.
