Paul Merson has been looking at the Chelsea situation as Liam Rosenior’s place as manager comes under increasing pressure.
The former Arsenal man has pointed out that Rosenior was underqualified for the Chelsea job in the first place.
“If Arne Slot got the sack at Liverpool this week, or if Eddie Howe left Newcastle, would Strasbourg boss Liam Rosenior have got one of those two jobs?,” the pundit said in his Sky Sports column.
“I’ll go one further: would he even get an interview? It’s madness. This Chelsea team don’t sit pretty at all with the fans, who have put Rosenior under pressure from day one.
“But the board – whatever plan they’ve got – you’d think Rosenior would need to get into the top five for them to be happy.”

Getting into the top 5 looks impossible after defeat to Everton. By Merson’s logic, that means Rosenior will be sacked. We’re not sure it will be quite so simple, but he’s certainly in major danger now.
Merson also dropped the rather worrying accusation that he thought Rosenior had lost the dressing room. We’re seeing the same signs.
Speaking on Match of the Day, Wayne Rooney was among the pundits who brutally took down Chelsea’s current transfer strategy.
