Manchester United have confirmed which players are in contention for the club’s August Player of the Month prize.
United have had a mixed start to the 2025/26 campaign. Heading into the season, confidence in the camp was high after a positive pre-season tour in which the team went unbeaten.
However, Ruben Amorim and his players suffered an opening 1-0 defeat to Arsenal. Still, this did little to dampen the optimism, as United’s performance was much improved and Arsenal were fortunate to leave Old Trafford with a point.
In the subsequent clash at Craven Cottage against Fulham, United were brought back down to reality even though the contest ended in a 1-1 draw. Marco Silva’s men were the much better side and United’s display left a lot to be desired.
Things went from bad to worse after the Red Devils were knocked out of the EFL by League Two side Grimsby Town.
But, United wrapped up the month with a hard-fought 3-2 win against newly-promoted Burnley, bringing back some of the good feeling around the club.
United have revealed that Matthijs de Ligt, Bryan Mbeumo and Leny Yoro are the contenders for August’s Player of the Month award.
So far this term, De Ligt has been astute at the back, defending capably. Often playing at the heart of Amorim’s favoured three-man defence, the Dutchman has reliably led the backline.
He was especially good against Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres and played a big role in keeping the striker quiet on his Premier League debut.
Mbeumo has seamlessly slotted into life at Old Trafford, having joined the club from Brentford during the summer transfer window.
He got his first goal for United during the disgraceful loss to Grimsby before grabbing another in the win over Burnley. He has caught the eye with his impressive technical ability and certainly looks the part.
Meanwhile, much like De Ligt, Yoro barely put a foot wrong in August and the young Frenchman seems to be getting better with every passing game. His most notable contribution was the header that deflected off Rodrigo Muniz to give United the lead at Fulham.
United will announce the winner later this week.
