Man United enter ‘advanced talks’ to sign £44m Premier League star in January, he’s ‘definitely’ available

Manchester United are reportedly in ‘advanced talks’ with Wolverhampton Wanderers to facilitate a deal for Joao Gomes.

The news comes courtesy of Trivela – an outlet based in the midfielder’s native Brazil.

It’s thought the transfer could cost as much as £44 million, meaning the Molineux outfit stand to make a hefty profit on the £15 million they forked out for him back in 2023.

United have been linked with Gomes on a handful of occasions over the last fortnight, leading fans to believe there must be some substance to the speculation.

Last week, Ben Jacobs claimed Gomes, along with Red Devils-linked Conor Gallagher, were two targets who would ‘definitely’ be available in the January window.

Wolves aren’t looking to part ways with the 24-year-old – quite the contrary, actually; newly-appointed manager Rob Edwards is keen to keep hold of all of his players heading into the second half of the season.

However, the fact that the Black Country outfit now appear almost destined for relegation, sitting rock bottom of the table after 12 matches played and nine points from safety, has likely prompted Gomes to begin considering his future, as he looks to avoid suffering the dreaded drop down to the Championship come May next year.

Should the transfer actually come to fruition, it would raise questions over whether Kobbie Mainoo will, in turn, be allowed to leave on loan.

United blocked his request in the final week of the summer window, yet he is still being utilised sparingly by Ruben Amorim in the build-up to January.
