Manchester United returned to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils opened the scoring through Matthijs de Ligt before Marcus Rashford doubled the lead. Substitute Alejandro Garnacho put the gloss on the performance with a stoppage-time goal.

Amad Diallo was impressive with his showing from the right wing. The youngster started ahead of Garnacho and had a good game, creating six chances for his teammates.

The Manchester Evening News claims United are ‘expected to offer’ a new contract to Diallo, who has started seven of the previous nine games in all competitions.

Diallo’s current deal expires in June next year, but the club have the option to extend his stay for another 12 months. They will trigger the clause if a renewal is not sorted by December.

The Atalanta graduate recently changed his agency to Leaders, who also represent Garnacho.

United likely to reward Diallo with improved deal

Diallo was signed by United from Atalanta for £37 million, including add-ons, in 2020.

He made the move to Old Trafford in January 2021 after securing his work permit, but his career has not flourished due to multiple long-term injuries and lack of playing time.

Diallo had a good start to pre-season with the club last year before sustaining a knee injury. This delayed his return to first-team action, but he has turned his fortunes around.

The dramatic late winner in the FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool last season has done wonders for him. He is now a regular starter on the right side of United’s attack.

The winger is one of the lowest earners at £29,000 per week. His new representatives could look to bring him on par with Garnacho, who earns a basic salary of £50,000 weekly.
