Manchester United have held 'positive contract talks' with Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Cunha according to reports.

The reliable Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic has today reported that the two sides are in talks with the Brazilian as Ruben Amorim looks to bring in much-needed reinforcements to his misfiring front line.

While United managed to score five goals in 120 minutes against Lyon last Thursday, there were familiar forward struggles against Wolves at Old Trafford on Sunday. It was the visitors who won 1-0 thanks to Pablo Sarabia's superb freekick which had been won by Cunha.

The Wolves man has a contract with the club until 2029 that includes a release clause of £62.5 million. Wolves are apparently keen to receive that in full but would consider instalments – something that United may need to do considering their financial difficulties.

Matheus Cunha initially joined Wolves on loan from Atlético Madrid midway through the 2022/23 season and has since gone on to play 87 times for the Molineux outfit, scoring 32 goals and assisting 14.
