New reports are claiming that Manchester City are set to compete with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal for the signature of Club Tijuana starlet Gilberto Mora.

The 17-year-old has risen through the youth ranks of the iconic Mexican club, breaking into their first-team set-up in 2024 and going on to make 41 appearances for his boyhood club since his debut.

In that time, the teenager has found the net on seven occasions and registered two assists in the process, going on to earn a senior Mexico call-up and making his debut for his country as a result.

The attacking midfielder has excelled at youth level for his nation during the Under-20 World Cup as Mexico made it to the quarter-finals before being knocked out by Argentina, with Mora shining throughout with five goal contributions in five matches (three goals, two assists.)

Given the rapid rise of the player, it now comes as no surprise to learn of widespread transfer interest among some of Europe’s premier clubs, including Manchester City as they battle with English top-flight rivals for his future signature.

That is according to Wednesday’s edition of Sport, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, who report that all of Arsenal, Manchester City, Barcelona and Real Madrid have registered interest in Gilberto Mora.

The report closes by stating that Barcelona’s Joan Laporta and Deco will be kept informed of the latest developments with this ‘ambidextrous player with exquisite technique, goal-scoring prowess, and exceptional vision’, and that ‘the game has only just begun.’

The youngster’s agent is Rafaela Pimenta, who historically has a great rapport with Barcelona president Joan Laporta, while she also manages the highly-publicised contract and agreements of Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland.

In addition to the aforementioned Culers, Real, City and Arsenal, David Beckham’s Inter Miami have also reportedly turned the Mexican’s head. However, if a European club was to reach an agreement for Mora, an arrival in Europe would not be permitted until he turns 18 in 2026.

The attacking midfielder will not be rushed into making a decision in the short term, and this perhaps favours Barcelona given their ongoing financial state, as they are not able to compete with other clubs for signings at present commanding bigger sums.
