One of the finest youth talents to be emerging from the United States is set to join Manchester City this summer for training, according to new reports.
Back in May 2024, MLS side Philadelphia Union signed on the then-14 year-old Cavan Sullivan to the largest homegrown contract in the division’s history, with an agreement built in to transfer the teenager to Manchester City after he turned 18 years-old.
Speaking upon signing his history-defining agreement in the US sport, Sullivan admitted, “I always watch Manchester City. They’re like every kid’s dream team.
“For them [The Philadelphia Union and Manchester City] to come together and agree on something… I sat with my family and my agents and we decided that it was the best plan.”
Further emphasising the talent that City have acquired, Cavan Sullivan was named in the MLS’ ‘22 Under 22’ back in October – a ranking of the top 22 players in Major League Soccer under the age of 22, voted by select MLS staff, MLS Season Pass talent and Club technical staff.
Now, despite still remaining a few years out from formally making the switch across the Atlantic to the City Football Academy, Manchester City are preparing to greet Sullivan and welcome him into their squad this summer.
That is according to the information of market insider Fabrizio Romano, who reveals that City are planning for the 15-year-old American midfield talent to begin training with the club in July, before rejoining Philadelphia Union to continue with the club.
Sullivan is said to be ‘developing very well’ and is seen as one of best young players worldwide, with the current plan being for the teenager to officially join the Etihad Stadium club in the summer of 2027.
Cavan Sullivan made his first visit to the Etihad Stadium since penning a formal agreement with the club back in December, and is believed to have attended the Manchester derby meeting with city rivals United.
For now, it remains to be seen what Manchester City’s longer-term plans are for the highly-rated attacking midfielder, and further thinking and decision making is likely to only come later down the line when a clearer idea on his trajectory is prevalent.
