Manchester City get back to Premier League action after qualifying for the Carabao Cup’s fourth round in midweek as they host newly-promoted Burnley.
Currently the team with the second-most League Cup titles in history with eight honours to their name, City visited the Accu Stadium for the first time since the 2018/19 season on Wednesday night and won comfortably.
Academy players and graduates alike such as James Trafford, Divine Mukasa, Nico O’Reilly, Rico Lewis, and Phil Foden, as well as the Heskey brothers – Jaden and Reigan – all shined in a moment to be proud of for the production of the club’s homegrown talent.
The first goal was entirely made in Manchester: a Phil Foden goal and a Divine Mukasa assist. In his first start of the campaign, Savinho also scored via a powerful effort to secure progression into the next round, assisted by Foden – back to his best and happy with his form.
Last time around in the league, the Cityzens played in an entirely different way with Arsenal having the majority of possession, and coming away from North London with a 1-1 draw. This weekend, it is expected that City will have more of the ball versus a weaker opponent.
Now back to Etihad Stadium after two away matchdays, Manchester City take on Burnley and welcome back former club captain Kyle Walker, who left the team this summer on a permanent agreement worth up to £5 million.

After being left out of the Carabao Cup duel in midweek, star striker Erling Haaland got back to training as expected following a minor back problem picked up against Arsenal, and many would expect him to return to the starting line-up.
As for the visitors in Burnley, Jacob Bruun Larsen, Jordan Beyer, Connor Roberts and Zeki Amdouni are in their medical department and unavailable for Saturday’s match at the Etihad Stadium.
Pep Guardiola on Phil Foden: “He wants to play every day because he’s happy and has the joy to play. And that is the best sign that he is ready.”
Pep Guardiola: “We have a good vibe in the team, and hopefully tomorrow [vs Burnley] we can continue.”
Pep Guardiola: “I know nobody believes me, but I’m incredibly optimistic and positive about what’s going to happen this season.”
In their most recent duel, Manchester City beat Vincent Kompany’s Burnley 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium as Julián Álvarez scored twice on his birthday, while Rodri added another. Ameen Al Dakhil pulled one back for the visitors
In the history books, the two teams have faced each other a total of 112 times, with 57 wins for City, 30 triumphs for Burnley, and 25 draws. Overall, City have scored 234 times against this opposition and only conceded 137.

Only against West Brom (14 ending Jan 2018), Bournemouth (15 ending Feb 2024), Watford (16 ongoing), and Fulham (18 ongoing) have the Citizens ever enjoyed a longer winning run in their history.
Burnley are winless in their last 19 league visits to Manchester City (D6 L13) since a 5-2 win in March 1963. The Clarets have lost each of their last seven Premier League games at the Etihad Stadium.
Manchester City have just seven points from their five Premier League games this season (W2 D1 L2), their lowest tally at this stage since 2006/07 (4). However, the Citizens have spent 54% of their game time in a winning position this term, more than any other side.
Manchester City have won 22 of their last 24 Premier League games against promoted sides (D2), since a 2-1 loss against Leeds United in April 2021.
No side have faced more shots (95), more shots on target (25) or has a higher xG against (10.5) than Burnley in the Premier League this season. However, Man City are averaging 11 shots per game in the Premier League this term, their lowest on record in a single campaign (since 2000/01).
