Manchester United remain in the race to sign Lewis Hall and are prioritising a deal over Newcastle teammate Sandro Tonali.

Manchester United have held talks with Hall’s camp to discuss a potential move to Old Trafford this summer. Discussions between the club and Hall’s representatives are ongoing, with the left-back having emerged as a top target.

United want to bring in a long-term successor for Luke Shaw and have made Hall their priority, with the Red Devils in need of defensive depth as the club prepare to return to European competition in 2026/27.

Newcastle do not want to sell Hall, who is contracted at St James’ Park until 2029. The Magpies would demand a significant profit on the £28m paid to sign the 21-year-old, and those demands have seen Manchester United cool their interest in Newcastle teammate Sandro Tonali.

The Italy international had been an option for the club’s midfield rebuild, though the cost of a double deal is considered too high.

According to Fabrizio Romano, United believe signing both players would cost around £120m to £130m, a figure deemed prohibitive.

United have already agreed a £35m deal to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson, while the Red Devils are assessing Lens’ Mamadou Sangare and West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes.
