Manchester United still feel Chelsea striker Liam Delap would have been a right signing for them, according to the Independent journalist Miguel Delaney.

Delap bagged 12 goals and two assists in 37 Premier League games for Ipswich Town last term, and the Red Devils were keen on bringing him to Old Trafford.

However, the 22-year-old joined Chelsea instead, while Man United signed Benjamin Sesko for £74 million.

The Slovenian has scored five goals in 19 games for the Red Devils, while Delap has tallied three goals in 24 games since joining the Blues.

It has been a disappointing campaign for the Englishman, and many people are now wondering whether he regrets joining Chelsea.

Man United are convinced he would have been perfect for them, and his fee made sense given the questions about the ability of other strikers available last summer.

Sesko has not been able to hit the ground running since moving to Man United, primarily because the club did not play to his strengths under former manager Ruben Amorim.

He has scored three goals in his last two games, and the Red Devils have also been encouraged by his sharp movement.

He still has plenty of room and time for improvement, but Man United will need to appoint a permanent manager who plays to his strengths to get the best out of him.

It is unclear whether Delap would have fared better at United, but he would likely have had more chances to replicate his form from last term.
