River Plate’s talent factory has produced another gem that has grabbed the attention of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Mastantuono made his senior debut for River Plate at the age of 16 in 2024. Just over a year later, he has established himself as one of the side’s most important players. Most recently, he made headlines by scoring a stunning free kick in their 2-1 win over Boca Juniors.

Known for his ability to manipulate the ball in tight spaces and impeccable ball striking, the Argentina U20 international has drawn comparisons to Manchester City’s Phil Foden.

The hype that his immense potential has generated has made it very difficult for the Argentine outfit to keep hold of their latest sensation.

According to Soy del Millo, United, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Madrid are all closely following the 17-year-old, who has been directly involved in six goals in 13 appearances this term.

It is claimed that there’s a fear at the club that a “significant offer for the left-footer could emerge and land him in the next transfer window.”

However, River Plate are prepared to fight to retain his services at least until the end of this calendar year.

The club’s general secretary Stefano Di Carlo is quoted as saying: “Mastantuono is staying at River Plate for the entire year, that’s a given.”

The right-winger’s contract includes a €45 million (£38.2m) buyout clause and is due to expire in 2026. It is understood that Los Millonarios are planning to find an agreement with their star over a renewal which would see them increase his release clause.

Mastantuono is not the only highly-rated prospect on United’s radar. Under director of recruitment Christopher Vivell’s leadership, the Red Devils are trying to add many sought-after young talents to their ranks.

United have reportedly won the race to sign Le Havre’s 18-year-old forward Enzo Kana-Biyik and are also interested in securing the services of Belgian wonderkid Zaïd Bafdili.
